July 4th Tips and Tricks

Welcome back to Sage Space! This week we discuss how to prep for a holiday weekend…

With the 4th of July just around the corner, I hope everyone has a chance to relax and enjoy the holiday. For many years I have loved going to the Jersey Shore, eating some steamed clams, and finding an outdoor spot with live music! I also look forward to my Mom’s classic macaroni salad with chopped celery, red onions, and real Hellman’s mayonnaise!

What’s your favorite 4th of July tradition such as a spot to watch fireworks or BBQ food?

Have a fantastic, safe and fun-filled 4th of July!

Best,
Cathy Minter

Tips for the week:

With the holiday weekend approaching and summer in full effect – this week we are sharing some tips on prepping your home for a trip away.

  1. Put a pause on your mail deliveries

There is no worse feeling then knowing a package was delivered or mail has piled up while you were on vacation. Is it exposed to rain or bad weather? Is it indicating to others that you are not home? Pausing your mail or packages when you’re away is now easier than ever! USPS, FedEx, and UPS all have easy online services that can put your deliveries on hold while you are away.

  2. Tell your neighbors about your trip

The easiest way to give yourself peace of mind about your home when out of town is to fill your neighbors in on your trip. Let them know the exact dates you will be gone and the best way for them to reach you in case of emergencies. They will be the eyes and ears on your home while you’re gone.

3. Tidying up goes a long way!

After a night or two away, there is nothing better than having a clean home to come back to you. Before you leave for your trip, be sure to clean any dishes in the sink, take out the trash, and preset your thermostat for the time you are gone. In a recent study conducted by Talker research, the study found 66% of people are so excited about upcoming travel, it motivates them to clean prior to departure!

Fun Fact:

Fireworks date back as a tradition of Independence Day as early as the first anniversary in 1777.

John Adams wrote in a letter to his wife, Abigail, that he wanted Independence Day to be celebrated with pomp, parade, shows, and "Illuminations." This original letter was written when Adams presumed that Independence Day would be celebrated on July 2.

Last week we received an important tip from one of the members in our community that we wanted to highlight in this week’s newsletter.

I heard something about hydration that surprised me. In a recent interview, Dr. Vin Gupta MD spoke about the critical importance of always keeping well hydrated, but especially on very warm or hot days.

Dr. Gupta shared the surprising information that DAIRY products were hydrating. A glass of skim milk will keep you hydrated longer! This is good news for me…my summer craving for an ice cream cone now seems like a responsible choice!!

Thank you Anne O. for sharing with us!!
