Heat Wave Book Recs

This week we discuss the Wisdom team’s favorite Summer reads.

This week, my Co-Founder Dawn and I travelled out to San Francisco to attend a Longevity Technology Venture conference. It was incredibly interesting with many great speakers and topics. We had three main takeaways that I wanted to share:

o   New technology solutions for older adults need to be better designed, easy to use, and solve real-world problems. Wake up Silicon Valley to the needs of older adults.

o   All the hype and craziness around AI is driving the need for greater privacy and data security, especially for people who are newer to applications that plan to leverage AI.

o   The greatest tech in the world does not replace the need for community, human connection, and empathy. Whew!!

Back to the east coast with the summer solstice upon us this week. We are expecting extreme heat across here and across the US. Here is a reminder from Sage Space Week 1 on the importance of hydration.

Stay cool and we look forward to hearing your book recommendations.

What better time than a hot summer day to pick up a new book? This week, the Wisdom team is very excited to share a few books that we are currently reading. We would love to hear some of yours!

Game of Life and The Power of the Spoken Word by Florence Scovel Shinn

Patty, who focuses on Communications and Advocacy, picked this one!

This book, written in 1926, is about the power behind your thoughts and words. It is as relevant today as ever. particularly good pieces in these heatwave times!

Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan

Puddy, who focuses on Community Outreach and Engagement, picked this one!

The story takes place in 1985 in Ireland. This is a deeply emotional story about a man who makes a discovery that confronts his past and the complicit silence of his town. This is a short and powerful book.

Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss

Carlyn, who focuses on Marketing and Social Media, picked this one!

A former FBI negotiator, outlining negotiation techniques derived from his experiences. The core premise revolves around the idea of "tactical empathy," where negotiators seek to understand and influence their counterparts' emotions and perspectives. He teaches negotiation strategies based on empathy, active listening, and understanding emotions to achieve successful outcomes in high-stakes situations.

Fun fact!

Did you know that the average American reads 12 books a year?

Is this more or less than you would’ve expected?

Quote of the Day

“In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.” ― Mortimer J. Adler
